2008 Go Wellington Dispute

The 2008 GO Wellington dispute was an industrial dispute between the GO Wellington bus company and drivers represented by the Wellington Tramways Union. On 24 September drivers struck between 7.30 am and 8.30 am, the middle of the morning rush hour. The dispute was escalated when the company moved to lock out its drivers, taking the company's 222 buses off the road the following day. The lockout ended on 25 September when the union withdrew its strike notice. Union secretary Kevin O'Sullivan told The New Zealand Herald that the union's push for higher wages would continue.

Famous quotes containing the words wellington and/or dispute:

Something is about to happen. Leaves are still.
Two shores away, a man hammering in the sky.
    Perhaps he will fall.
    —Alfred Wellington Purdy (b. 1919)

Your next-door neighbour ... is not a man; he is an environment. He is the barking of a dog; he is the noise of a pianola; he is a dispute about a party wall; he is drains that are worse than yours, or roses that are better than yours.
    Gilbert Keith Chesterton (1874–1936)
