On 26 May 2008, a Moskovia Airlines An-12 cargo aircraft crashed near Chelyabinsk, Russia. After departure to Perm it turned back and crashed near the airfield, killing all nine crew members .
The aircraft transported cash money to Chelyabinsk, and was returning to Perm without any cargo. It took off only after a second attempt at 18:02 (local time). On 18:09, the crew reported smoke in the cabin (probably the result of a short circuit) and decided to return to the airport. The first attempt to approach the runway was unsuccessful and the plane had to go around. Flying too low, it hit a power transmission line and crashed near the airfield at 18:15. The fire broke out after the crash; there were no survivors.
One of the flight recorders is severely damaged, which made the investigation of disaster's causes more difficult. The aircraft was built in 1968.
Famous quotes containing the word crash:
“O ship
white-sailed of Crete,
you brought my mistress
from her quiet palace
through breaker and crash of surf
to love-rite of unhappiness!”
—Hilda Doolittle (18861961)
