2007 North Texas Mean Green Football Team

The 2007 North Texas Mean Green football team represented the University of North Texas in the 2007 college football season. The team was led by its new head Coach Todd Dodge, replacing former coach Darrell Dickey, who was fired after going 3–9 in 2006. Dodge is regarded as one of the nation’s most successful high school football coaches amassing a 98–11 record overall at Carroll High School in Southlake, Texas. He was named National Coach of the Year by Schutt Sports in 2004 and by USA Today in 2005. His Southlake program produced 5 consecutive offensive players of the year in Texas. Dodge is also regarded by many FBS coaches as one of the nation's premiere offensive minds in developing a unique and effective scheme in his variation of the spread offense, in the much the same vein as Steve Spurrier and Mouse Davis. While at Southlake, Dodge help the University of Missouri to implement his scheme. The recent resurgence at Missouri can in part be credited to Dodge's schemes and to one of Dodge's former Southlake players, Heisman Finalist Chase Daniel.

The Mean Green played their home games on campus at Fouts Field in Denton, Texas.

Famous quotes containing the words football team, north, texas, green, football and/or team:

...I’m not money hungry.... People who are rich want to be richer, but what’s the difference? You can’t take it with you. The toys get different, that’s all. The rich guys buy a football team, the poor guys buy a football. It’s all relative.
    Martina Navratilova (b. 1956)

Civilization does not engross all the virtues of humanity: she has not even her full share of them. They flourish in greater abundance and attain greater strength among many barbarous people. The hospitality of the wild Arab, the courage of the North American Indian, and the faithful friendships of some of the Polynesian nations, far surpass any thing of a similar kind among the polished communities of Europe.
    Herman Melville (1819–1891)

I not only rejoice, but congratulate my beloved country Texas is reannexed, and the safety, prosperity, and the greatest interest of the whole Union is secured by this ... great and important national act.
    Andrew Jackson (1767–1845)

    Time kills me terribly.
“Time shall not murder you,” He said,
    “Nor the green nought be hurt;
Who could hack out your unsucked heart,
O green and unborn and undead?”
    I saw time murder me.
    Dylan Thomas (1914–1953)

In football they measure forty-yard sprints. Nobody runs forty yards in basketball. Maybe you run the ninety-four feet of the court; then you stop, not on a dime, but on Miss Liberty’s torch. In football you run over somebody’s face.
    Donald Hall (b. 1928)

They’re two good old friends of mine. I call them Constitution and The Bill of Rights. A most dependable team for long journeys. Then I’ve got another one called Missouri Compromise. And a Supreme Court—a fine, dignified horse, though you have to push him on every now and then.
    Dan Totheroh (1895–1976)
