General Manager Tom Donahoe was fired shortly after the end of the 2005 season. Marv Levy, who had coached the Bills from 1986–1997, was named as his replacement, with hopes that he would improve a franchise that failed to make the playoffs during Donahoe's tenure. Shortly thereafter, head coach Mike Mularkey resigned as the Bills' head coach, citing family reasons along with disagreement over the direction of the organization. Dick Jauron, former coach of the Chicago Bears, was hired as his replacement.
