2000 Rugby League Emerging Nations Tournament

The 2000 Rugby League Emerging Nations Tournament was held alongside the 2000 Rugby League World Cup. As with the World Cup, the competition suffered from poor attendances in comparison to the previous event. Somewhat bizarrely, the tournament was won by the British Amateur Rugby League Association (BARLA), who it can be claimed are neither "emerging" nor a "nation".

Famous quotes containing the words league, emerging and/or nations:

I am not impressed by the Ivy League establishments. Of course they graduate the best—it’s all they’ll take, leaving to others the problem of educating the country. They will give you an education the way the banks will give you money—provided you can prove to their satisfaction that you don’t need it.
    Peter De Vries (b. 1910)

Adolescents, for all their self-involvement, are emerging from the self-centeredness of childhood. Their perception of other people has more depth. They are better equipped at appreciating others’ reasons for action, or the basis of others’ emotions. But this maturity functions in a piecemeal fashion. They show more understanding of their friends, but not of their teachers.
    Terri Apter (20th century)

Two nations between whom there is no intercourse and no sympathy; who are as ignorant of each other’s habits, thoughts, and feelings, as if they were dwellers in different zones, or inhabitants of different planets.... The rich and the poor.
    Benjamin Disraeli (1804–1881)
