2000 Republican National Convention - Bush's Acceptance Speech

Bush's Acceptance Speech

Bush attacked the eight years of the Clinton Administration as weak on defense and military topics, high taxes, underperforming schools and indifferent teachers, high pollution, and a "lack of dignity and respect to the presidency." He attacked the Clinton Administration's military policies, claiming that American troops were "not ready for duty, sir." He also claimed that the Clinton Administration did not provide leadership. He said, "They had their chance. They have not led. We will".

Famous quotes containing the words bush, acceptance and/or speech:

I come to one bush of berries so ripe it is a bush of flies,
Hanging their bluegreen bellies and their wing panes in a Chinese
    screen.
The honey-feast of the berries has stunned them; they believe in
    heaven.
    Sylvia Plath (1932–1963)

The dignity to be sought in death is the appreciation by others of what one has been in life,... that proceeds from a life well lived and from the acceptance of one’s own death as a necessary process of nature.... It is also the recognition that the real event taking place at the end of our life is our death, not the attempts to prevent it.
    Sherwin B. Nuland (b. 1930)

We look forward to a world founded upon four essential human freedoms. The first is freedom of speech and expression—everywhere in the world. The second is freedom of every person to worship God in his own way—everywhere in the world. The third is freedom from want ... everywhere in the world. The fourth is freedom from fear ... anywhere in the world.
    Franklin D. Roosevelt (1882–1945)
