1 Street and Centre Street are stops in downtown Calgary on the city's C-Train light rail system. The 1 Street platform is used by westbound trains, and the Centre Street platform is used by eastbound trains. The two platforms are located on the sides of 7 Avenue South, west and east of Centre Street, and are both located inside the free fare zone.
The original 1 Street W station opened on May 25, 1981 as part of Calgary's first LRT line from 8 Street W to Anderson and was located between 1 Street & 2 Street SW (across from the Scotia Center). On October 28, 2005, a new four-car platform for the 1 Street Southwest stop was finished. The platform moved to a new location between 1 Street and Centre Street, one block east of its old location. This was the first station to be refurbished as part of the 7 Avenue Refurbishment Project.
The original Centre Street station opened on May 25, 1981 as part of Calgary's first LRT line from 8 Street W to Anderson and was located between 1 Street SW & Centre Street. The station was relocated one block east between Centre Street & 1 Street SE to coincide with the Telus Convention Center Redevelopment and opened in September 2000. This was not part of the 7 Avenue Refurbishment and the station was constructed to three-car length with room to easily expand to four-car length when needed in the future. Construction of the platform extension at Center Street Station was completed in early 2012.
All of the 7 Avenue Refurbished Stations that followed in 2005 - 2012 use the same design as Center Street where the entire sidewalk slopes up to platform level. However, the canopy design at Center Street is slightly different.
The Telus Convention Centre, Glenbow Museum, and the Calgary Tower are located near these station, as are skyscrapers such as the Suncor Energy Centre, Scotia Centre and Bow Valley Square.
The station registered an average of Centre Street 11,200 and 19,000 weekday boardings (for Centre Street and 1 Street SW platforms respectively).
