Eastern Europe
1993's takeover of Skoda by Volkswagen has seen the Czech marque feel the first real benefit of its new ownership. The Felicia is a heavily facelifted version of the 1988 Favorit, with better equipment levels, improved build quality and a more enjoyable driving experience, but maintaining the original car's highly competitive price and running costs. Famous quotes containing the words eastern europe, eastern and/or europe:
“Should the German people lay down their arms, the Soviets ... would occupy all eastern and south-eastern Europe together with the greater part of the Reich. Over all this territory, which with the Soviet Union included, would be of enormous extent, an iron curtain would at once descend.”
—Joseph Goebbels (18971945)
“In the dominant Western religious system, the love of God is essentially the same as the belief in God, in Gods existence, Gods justice, Gods love. The love of God is essentially a thought experience. In the Eastern religions and in mysticism, the love of God is an intense feeling experience of oneness, inseparably linked with the expression of this love in every act of living.”
—Erich Fromm (19001980)
“Television is an excellent system when one has nothing to lose, as is the case with a nomadic and rootless country like the United States, but in Europe the affect of television is that of a bulldozer which reduces culture to the lowest possible denominator.”
—Marc Fumaroli (b. 1932)
