Boycotting Countries

Fourteen countries took part in the Soviet-led boycott of the 1984 Olympic Games:

  • Afghanistan
  • Angola
  • Bulgaria
  • Cuba
  • Czechoslovakia
  • East Germany
  • Ethiopia
  • Hungary
  • Laos
  • Mongolia
  • North Korea
  • Poland
  • Soviet Union
  • Vietnam

Iran and Libya also boycotted the games, citing political reasons, but were not a part of the Soviet led boycott. Iran was the only country to boycott both the 1980 and 1984 events.
