1967 Masters Tournament

The 1967 Masters Tournament was contested from April 6 to April 9 at Augusta National Golf Club. It was the 31st Masters Tournament. 83 players entered the tournament and 55 of them made the cut at six-over-par (150).

Rebounding from a playoff loss the previous year, Gay Brewer birdied the 13th, 14th and 15th hole on Sunday to defeat Bobby Nichols by one stroke.

Gary Player finished tied for 6th. Jack Nicklaus missed the cut by one stroke. Sam Snead and Ben Hogan, both age 54, finished tied for 10th. In the third round, Hogan shot a 66 which was the lowest single round score in the tournament. Hogan's round included a course record 30 on the back nine. The record stood until Mark Calcavecchia shot 29 in 1992 (David Toms also shot a 29 on nine holes at the Masters in 1998). This would be the last time that the three-time champion Snead would play in the Masters. This would be the last Masters tournament that three-time champion Jimmy Demaret participated in. He missed the cut by 4 strokes. Demaret won the Masters in 1940, 1947 and 1950.

Arnold Palmer won the Par 3 contest with a score of 23.

Famous quotes containing the word masters:

Today as in the time of Pliny and Columella, the hyacinth flourishes in Wales, the periwinkle in Illyria, the daisy on the ruins of Numantia; while around them cities have changed their masters and their names, collided and smashed, disappeared into nothingness, their peaceful generations have crossed down the ages as fresh and smiling as on the days of battle.
    Edgar Quinet (1803–1875)
