1937 St. Louis Cardinals Season - Regular Season

Regular Season

As the season was set to begin, the Cardinals were considered the favorites to win the National League and face the New York Yankees in the 1937 World Series.

Outfielder Joe Medwick won the MVP Award this year, batting .374, with 31 home runs and 154 RBIs. Conversely, Dizzy Dean battled injuries, staged a mid-game strike, engaged in multiple fights and was even suspended for a time. Dean finished with a 13-10 record and only one win after the All-Star Break and was named the "biggest bust of the year" by an Associated Press poll after the season.

Famous quotes containing the words regular and/or season:

“I couldn’t afford to learn it,” said the Mock Turtle with a sigh. “I only took the regular course.”
    “What was that?” inquired Alice.
“Reeling and Writhing, of course, to begin with,” the Mock Turtle replied; “and then the different branches of Arithmetic—Ambition, Distraction, Uglification, and Derision.”
“I never heard of ‘Uglification,’” Alice ventured to say.
Lewis Carroll [Charles Lutwidge Dodgson] (1832–1898)

When I was bound apprentice, in famous Lincolnshire,
Full well I served my master for more than seven year,
Till I took up poaching, as you shall quickly hear:
Oh, ‘tis my delight on a shining night, in the season of the year.
