1884 Minnesota Golden Gophers Football Team - William C. Leary and John Harrison

William C. Leary and John Harrison

William C. "Bill" Leary and John Harrison were college football head coaches for the University of Minnesota for the 1899 season, together leading the team to a 6-3-2 overall record including 0-3 in Big Ten conference play. They coached the team as a part of a new alumni coaching program. Although most around the program considered the experiment a success, the program was discontinued with the hiring of the University's first full-time salaried coach, Dr. Henry L. Williams.

Famous quotes containing the words leary, john and/or harrison:

I’ve never heard of Timothy Leary before, but I want to get into advertising, so I liked when he talked about how whoever controls your eyeballs controls your mind.
    Amy Stewart (b. 1975)

Oh for some honest lover’s ghost,
    Some kind unbodied post
    Sent from the shades below!
    I strangely long to know
    Whether the nobler chaplets wear
Those that their mistress’ scorn did bear,
Or those that were used kindly.
    —Sir John Suckling (1609–1642)

I cannot trust myself to put in words what I feel at this time. Every kind thought that is in your minds and every good wish that is in your hearts for me finds its responsive wish and thought in my mind and heart for each of you. I love this city. It has been my own cherished home. Twice before I have left it to discharge public duties and returned to it with gladness, as I hope to do again.
    —Benjamin Harrison (1833–1901)
